Administrator of the PSHCP

Administration Authority

The PSHCP is managed through the Administration Authority, having Directors appointed by the three PSHCP Partners:

The PSHCP Administration Authority is an independent body that operates at arm's length from the federal government. It is comprised of nine Directors and a Chairperson who meet regularly to ensure that the interests of PSHCP members are protected.

The Directors have established a Secretariat to support their work and assist them in fulfilling their mandate. The Secretariat will ensure that the policies and decisions of the Directors are implemented and effectively monitored.

Financial management

The Plan is operated on a self-insured basis. The Plan assumes full liability for the payment of all costs related to the operation of the Plan, including the payment of claims.

The PSHCP is funded through contributions from:

  • Treasury Board of Canada,
  • participating employers, and
  • Plan members

in accordance with the Letters Patent and the Bylaws, which took effect May 1, 2007, among the PSHCP partners.

Administrator of the PSHCP

Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, the PSHCP administrator, is responsible for the consistent adjudication and payment of eligible claims in accordance with the Plan Document and for providing services as specified in the Administrative services only contract.
